George Carlin Memorial

When it comes to saying what you think in my eyes no one said it better than George Carlin. Carlin is commonly known for his “7 Words You Can’t Say On Television” skit. When Carlin passed away in 2008 I was deeply saddened and decided to make a memorial for him.

What can always be remembered about Carlin is what he said in his skits. I wanted to create a print piece that captured some of the most memorable times of his career. Seeing as there were so many different segments I choose to make a booklet with three of his most iconic segments and build a portrait of him with all his sayings. The segments I choose were “7 Words You Can’t Say”, “Flamethrowers” and Mr. Conductor.

Using the words I created images based on the themes of his skits. Some typographic images created included a portrait of Carlin, 7 Words for the 7 Words skit, a flame in dedication of his flamethrower skit, and a conductors cap in dedication to when he was narrator for the children’s show Shining Time Station.

When it came to styling of the booklet I wanted to have the portrait on the front page pop out as much as possible. To do this I used a lighter purple so I could be able to mix in white and gray toned text to make it look more similar to Carlin. I also chose to add more bolder fonts for some of his more memorable lines.
